The TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco, especially created by the Swiss luxury watch manufacture achieves CHF290,000 at the Only Watch charity auction.
La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland– 6th November 2021: TAG Heuer is proud to announce the exceptional result achieved by the Only Watch Carbon Monaco. The unique piece has been sold for the
price of CHF290,000, almost six times its low estimate, at the Only Watch 2021 edition in Geneva, with all proceeds to benefit research into the Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The sum represents the highest sum ever paid publicly for a contemporary TAG Heuer timepiece. This spectacular timepiece embodies the spirit of the ultra-rare Monaco “Dark Lord” from the 1970s with a one-off, high-end, carbon-cased version of the inimitable square-cased chronograph.
The TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco, lot 48 of the sale, was one of the stars of the auction which took place on the 6th of November in Geneva during the biennial auction of one-off luxury timepieces by the finest watch manufacturers for the research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
“We are delighted that our watch proved such a success during the Only Watch auction, but above all, we are very proud that proceeds will be used to help further research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy disease.” Said Frédéric Arnault, TAG Heuer Chief Executive Officer. “We would also like to warmly thank all of the bidders who showed interest in the Only Watch Carbon Monaco and allowed it to achieve such an exceptional result for this important cause. We hope that the winner will enjoy wearing one of the most spectacular, imaginative wristwatches we have ever created, that truly embodies the spirit and values of TAG Heuer.”
The TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco has been produced in a unique example and features extensive use of carbon throughout, including, the case, dial, and hairspring. A true watchmaking tour de force, playing on more than half a century of TAG Heuer heritage around the Monaco, the watch also embraces the best of the company’s 21st century savoir-faire and innovation. From the extensive hand-finished movement to the open-worked dial, and the hand-painted oscillating mass, the Only Watch Carbon Monaco perfectly encapsulates the duality of TAG Heuer, with its respect for traditional watchmaking techniques, complemented by cutting edge materials and avant-garde design.
The TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco is powered by TAG Heuer’s in-house Heuer 02 automatic chronograph, a Swiss-made movement with an 80-hour power reserve. This is a unique expression of the Heuer 02, created exclusively for the occasion. Not only has the movement been beautifully decorated by hand, it also carries TAG Heuer’s groundbreaking in-house carbon hairspring, developed by the company’s celebrated TAG Heuer Institute. Appearing in the Heuer 02, and therefore a Monaco for the very first time, the carbon hairspring delivers exceptional levels of anti-magnetism, shock resistance, stability across temperature ranges and refined geometry for excellent chronometric performance movement, while ensuring the watch remained water-resistant.
