Featuring modernised design details that build on the brand’s motor racing DNA, four new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 timepieces join the legendary collection.
La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland – 19 July 2019: The TAG Heuer Carrera has always been a timepiece for racing drivers as much as for watch aficionados who treasure timepieces with heritage and innovative design. The new stylistic enhancements to the legendary TAG Heuer Carrera give it a more modern edge that not only improves the legibility of the dial, but also makes it ideal for everyday style – from the office to a casual weekend on the go. The revamped 41 mm TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 combines performance with a sporty, distinguished appearance for a timepiece that is as functional and comfortable as it is fashionable.
Driving first-class design
Several newly designed features make this refreshed timepiece stand out from its stylish predecessors. The dial – in sunray black or sunray blue – has evolved to become even more legible, ideal for drivers as they
speed towards the finish line or cruise down the open road. The counters on the chronograph’s three subdials are larger and more pronounced. Instead of a dot of SuperLuminova® at each index, the index markers are now subtly filled with the luminescent material for optimal visibility in any condition. A dash of colour enhances the overall appearance of the timepiece – on the black dial, a red accent graces the tips of the central seconds hand and subdial hands, the start/stop pusher and the flange from 12 to 3 o’clock. On
the models with a blue dial, the accent is orange.
Further distinguishing the new models is the stainless-steel case, which appears thinner and sleeker due to the shorter lugs and a balance of brushed and polished finishes that give the watch a more dynamic character. The new length and style of the lugs make the watch more comfortable to wear – day after day, race after race.
The black or blue ceramic bezel also appears larger since it no longer has a metal ring along the outer edge. This change underscores the sporty look of this elegant timepiece.
A dynamic combination
The most eye-catching of the four new models is the piece in blue with a light brown leather strap. Reintroducing this colour in a TAG Heuer Carrera watch of this size, this modern timepiece is presented on a perforated calfskin strap with stitching and lining in the same orange colour as the accents on the dial. Its counterpart also features the dial in sunray blue but has a stainless-steel bracelet. The models with a sunray black dial come with a stainless-steel bracelet or a perforated black leather strap with red stitching.
Under the bonnet
Powering each of the new models is the automatic Calibre 16, protected by a stamped caseback with the collection name and a tyre-track pattern that serves as a nod to the collection’s heritage of high speed and adventure. The crown has also been given a slight upgrade with black lacquer around the centre and the TAG Heuer shield.
The TAG Heuer Carrera collection was originally introduced in 1963. Its ties with the world of motor racing continue to drive the line, which has become one of the brand’s most popular and well known. Designed for professional racers, the collection was named after the famous and dangerous Carrera Panamericana race, which saw only the most daring drivers take part. The word Carrera means “race” or “career”, and the bold, innovative and tough watches bearing this name are made for those who do things their way – whether out on the racetrack or following their own path.
