TAG Heuer has given a timely reminder of its golfing prowess, with the Masters tournament currently taking place in Augusta.
It’s launching the Connected Calibre E4 Golf Edition, which comes with new functionality aimed to please golf lovers.
This comes on the back of the release of TAG Heuer’s Calibre E4 just a few weeks ago with new models in 42mm and 45mm.
Built into the strap for this edition are Drive Shot tracking and a ball marker, as well as a redesigned interface to improve usability. This includes new high resolution 2D maps, ensuring that the player sees hazards and distances in more than 40,000 golf courses. This map screen will cram in more information than ever, with distances, club information, scores, and hole numbers displayed on screen as users play.
The brand’s English golf star ambassador Tommy Fleetwood will be wearing the new Connected Calibre E4 Gold Edition, and will be looking to use it to improve on the 3 over par he registered at the first round of the Masters yesterday.
Fleetwood himself had this to say: “TAG Heuer Golf Edition allows golfer of every level to improve their game. The new Drive shot tracking helps you track your most important shot and the integrated ball marker is so easy to use and store away.”
Meanwhile Frederic Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer said: “Our customers play golf more than any other sport, and golf has become an important pillar of the Connected watch: the new Calibre E4 is built to be a watch that wearers don’t take off when they leave the golf course.”
The watch has a redesigned buckle with the aforementioned built-in magnetic ball marker, meaning one less thing to carry in the pocket for the player on the green. TAG Heuer claims that the marker slides from the wrist easily and can be popped out in one movement and reattached similarly.
Perhaps of even greater interest for keen golfers is the fact that the watch detects the user’s swing to allow them to track performance in the accompanying app. For now this is limited to tracking the first shot on each hole.
The automatic shot tracking also enhances existing features of the watch, such as the Driving Range feature, by providing the app with more data (as it’s activated automatically). The Driving Range feature offers a ‘heat map’ for every hole, which shows where shots landed on previous rounds, which helps to pick the perfect club for each hole over time.
It comes with an additional black strap, which is easily interchangeable, and there are also several Connected faces that have been redesigned to match the design of the Golf Edition.
Once golfers have finished a round, they can review their performance in 3D via a companion app paired to the watch, a feature that is currently available only for iOS devices.
The 45mm model has a sporting design and a ceramic bezel, aiming to give it a luxury feel, while the 18 holes bezel provides a scorecard during a round for the player. On top of this, TAG claims that the new model has 30% longer battery life, which should hopefully give the wearer confidence that they won’t run out of juice halfway through a round.
