Phillips New York Watch Auction: SIX will give starring roles to Hollywood legend James Garner and George Daniels, Britain’s greatest independent watchmaker of the past century.
The auction, which takes place from June 11 to 12 at Phillips New York, already has 160 rare and historically important timepieces curated for the sale.
First George Daniels Anniversary Watch ever made
For expert collectors, the sale of the very first George Daniels Anniversary Watch ever made, cased in platinum and bearing the unique serial number “00″, will be the greatest attraction.
It has a pre-sale estimate of $500,000 to $1,000,000.
The sale also includes an F. P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain that was given to Mr Daniels CBE by François-Paul Journe.
Philipps has given it an estimates of $250,000 to $500,000.
James Garner’s watches
Hollywood memorabilia collectors may be more attracted to five wristwatches from the collection of American actor James Garner, best known for his title role in 1970s police drama The Rockford Files.
Top of the James Garner lots is a Heuer Carrera reference 2447 that Mr Garner wore in The Rockford Files and has his name printed on the dial.
Given its provenance, and rising interest among collectors for Heuer watches from the 1970s, the lot is likely to far exceed its estimate of $20,000 to $40,000.
A second watch whose horological chops are enhanced with Hollywood star power is a manually-wound Cartier Baignoire dated from the 1960s and regularly warn by Mr Garner.
Preserved in outstanding original condition, the case bears the eagle’s head hallmark for 18K gold imported to France, and a “Made in France” designation.
