The latest entrant to the Seiko 5 Sports collection earned its place by attracting some 8.5m votes as part of the Japanese brand’s Custom Watch Beatmaker competition.
The competition ran from October until January this year, with 48,000 entries created using an online customizer that featured just five variable components and paired the final designs with one of 32 original pieces of music created by eight up-and-coming artists.
The winning design, now know as SRPH19, was clearly inspired by Seiko’s iconic “Pogue” 6139 chronograph from the late 1960s (with its red/blue bezel and a gold, rather than yellow, dial) and won by attracting more than half of the total 16m votes.
Like other Seiko 5 Sports models, the 42.5mm stainless steel watch is powered by a 3Hz Seiko Calibre 4R36 automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve and features a Hardlex crystal and exhibition caseback.
Limited to 2,021 piece, the Seiko 5 Sports CUSTOM WATCH BEATMAKER 2021 Limited Edition drops in August via Seiko, priced $360 USD (£260 GBP).
